31st annual 'Juried Art Exhibit' opens in Lambertville, Feb. 5

The Lambertville Historical Society and the Coryell Gallery are preparing for the 31st annual Juried Art Exhibition titled, “Lambertville and the Surrounding Area,” to be held in the Gallery from Feb. 5 through March 18, with an opening reception on Sunday, Feb. 5 from 3 to 6 p.m.

Artists are invited to submit one original painting in all mediums, including drawings and artists’ prints. Giclee prints are not accepted. The subject must be of Lambertville and the surrounding area, including the New Hope area. All works must be delivered to the Coryell Gallery on the following dates: Wednesday, Jan. 18 through Sunday, Jan. 22, during gallery hours, noon to 5 p.m. The work must be for sale, suitably framed and ready for hanging. The size limit is 40” in width and 40” high, including the frame. The entry fee of $20 is non-refundable.

Members of the Society will select a painting, after the judging, to be raffled off by the selling of raffle tickets during the show, to benefit the Society. There will be cash awards from the Lambertville Historical Society, The Coryell Gallery and the Hunterdon County Cultural & Heritage Commission, and others to be announced.

Douglas Wiltraut, one of the foremost painters in egg tempera and dry brush watercolors has been invited to jury the exhibition this year. A graduate of Kutztown University with a bachelor of fine arts in painting, he is currently president of the National Society of Painters in Casein and Acrylic Painters. He has been the recipient of the Butler Institute of American Art Award and the Knickerbocker Artists Gold and Silver Medals of Honor, among many other awards. He is a member of the American Watercolor Society, Audubon Artists, Allied Artists of America, Philadelphia Watercolor Society, and is listed in Who’s Who in American Art and is included in private, corporate and Museum collections. Examples of his work can be seen in nine publications, including “How to Discover your Painting Style.”

The Coryell Gallery at the Porkyard, 8 Coryell St., Lambertville, is located opposite Finkle’s Hardware Store, and located alongside the historic Delaware and Raritan Canal. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. For further information, call Janet M. Hunt at 609-397-0804.
